Safari: Things to Know
Thursday, October 7th, 2010
I wrote up this quick guide for a friend who needed to switch away from Google Chrome (for some strange reason), so I thought I’d post it here for the world!
Installing Safari
- http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
- Choose “Safari 5.0.2 for Windows XP, Vista or 7″ (not Safari 5.0.2+QuickTime for Windows XP, Vista or 7)
- Uncheck “Keep me up to date with Apple news, software updates, and the latest information on products and services.”
- Do not give them your email address, unless you really, really want to…?
- Click “Download Now”
- Open SafariSetup.exe after it finishes downloading. (Click “Run” if it prompts you.)
- Accept the terms.
- Uncheck “Install Bonjour for Windows”.
- Click “Install”.
- Click “Finish”.
- Uncheck “Always perform this check.” and click “No”.
For Your Information
- Safari opens very slowly each first time you open it (after each computer restart).
- Safari doesn’t do well with multiple tabs open at the same time.
- Safari has the 2nd slowest (after Firefox) JavaScript environment.
- Safari uses a moderately heavy amount of memory with a single tab open. (Which can cause system slowness.)
