Record a conversation with free tools

This morning I was faced with a unique challenge.  Find a solution (in less than five minutes) for recording a meeting.

I could’ve searched through the App Store on the iPhone to find an app that “does that.”  But instead I chose to go a more creative route.

I could’ve used drop.io’s ability to record voice via a phone call, or I could’ve used Google Voice’s call recording feature.

Instead, I rigged this up:

I initiated a phone call from the iPhone to my Google Voice number but I answered it with Gizmo5 on my PC (since Gizmo5 isn’t currently available, here is how to set this up another way).  Then I set audacity to record the stereo mix and finally I muted the mic so none of the noise I make on this end will be transmitted back to the iPhone.

The end result is a very long wave form that I can export to MP3 for future review of the conversation that happened this morning!
